at first when i read this short story The Star. i really did not know what to expect. i could tell that the story must have had something to do with religion because of all the references to the main charters broken faith. the writer chooses to keep the readers in the dark about the faith breaking discovery that is made while checking out this Phoenix nebula. i normally do not enjoy this type of writing but it seems to fit this type of story. i do not believe that if it had been written with all the information up front that it would have been a better story.
i did enjoy the story because the main reason of the story was in upfront it was the peoples faith being tested in a very big way, but we did not know this until the end. it's an interesting way to relay that religious issue that all of us have at one time in our lives.
i do like the fact that the story was written to were after you are dome reading it you get the general idea unlike most other storeys that you are kept in the dark about. in most of them you often have to reread the whole story just to make since of it. over all i just have to say that it was a very interesting well written short story.
i think good questions for the class might be like;
do you think if this story was real people would really be that upset?
why do you think this story was written? was it to teach a lesson or just for entertainment?
